Spontaneous Deerfield Beach, FL Trip: Gallery and Restaurant Reviews

“The beach sounds good.” Four days later, my buddy Jason and I were toes in the water with a quick trip down to Florida to visit my brother, breathe in the salt air, and visit some local food spots. We had a great time visiting and were blessed with fantastic weather.

Bru’s Room: This local bar and grill is the typical open-air, garage door patio near the beach that is owned by a former NFL player. There are multiple locations in south Florida, and this place was the overall best meal we had. The happy hour specials were great, and Michael and Stephanie provided fantastic service.

Mac ‘n Cheese bites were exactly what they sound like. Fried mac ‘n cheese bites and sriracha ranch - it is a guaranteed win. 7.5

The Chips and Salsa/Queso was also a fine starter, nothing super special about the dish, but it still tasted good. 6.4

Bob’s BBQ Burger was my choice for dinner. The pre-made patty was fresh and well-cooked with a sweet and tangy bbq sauce was that complemented the crisp and fresh pickle and lettuce. Fried onion straws provided the needed crunch to the overall texture of the burger. Very good burger, would order again. 7.8

Funky Buddha Floridian Hefeweizen was the local, craft beer of choice for me, as this was one of the few local taps they offered. The beer was smooth and refreshing, as one would expect with a Hefeweizen style beer, but was not as robust of a flavor as I would have wanted. 6.7

Overall score: 7.5, great experience and a fun time.

Dubliner: This Irish pub is a string of restaurants owned and ran by a restaurant group in Boca Raton, with this being the only Irish style bar they run. The service was not great, with multiple attempts to get a water seemed to make our server upset and not come back for 15 minutes. The food was good, not great, and was not worth sitting through the bad service to get.

The Guinness Glaze Chicken Wings were a great app, as it was part of their happy hour deals. The glaze was not as flavorful as other Guinness glazes I have had in the past. 6.8

Next up was the Roast Beef Sliders. These were tied as the best thing we had from Dubliner, with the roast beef sliders being served on a soft yeast bun, gruyere cheese, and caramelized onions. The flavors all worked well together, and will be trying to recreate at home. 7.7

Fish n Chips are one of the most famous dishes from Ireland and the UK, as well as south Florida, so it was a no-brainer to see how these turn out. Honestly, I was hooked on these fish n chips! The batter was crisp and light, while not completely overpowering the fish. The only issue was slightly overcooked fish, but it still had a fresh taste and good texture. The fish was especially complimentary to the beer I was having along with it. Fries were good, but overcooked, and the cole slaw was fine, but nothing special. 7.7

SweetWater 420 Mango Kush Lager was the only, “local” tap they had. This brewery is located in Atlanta, Georgia, which is regional, but not local. The beer had a, “dank nose”, as the description said, but had a mellow mango and wheat taste on the finish. Not my favorite beer, but complimented the fish very well. 6.7

Overall score: 6.2, will not be rushing back next time I am in town.
