Schlafly Highlight

When deciding what to do for my mom’s birthday, we decided to go to Schlafly Bankside in St. Charles, Missouri. A little bit of a drive away led us to this gastropub, with great food, great beer, and a great location. The building used to be a restaurant called Trailhead Brewing Company, but Schlafly took over in 2020. Being on the direct corner of the street, Schlafly Bankside was an easy walk from public parking, with many other restaurants and shops on historic South Main Street in St. Charles.

For the appetizers, we opted for the Fried Pickles and Smoked Chicken Nachos. Both were tasty and enjoyable.

My dad and I ordered the Pastrami Reuben. The sandwich stayed true to the classic sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, Thousand Island dressing, on rye bread. We both devoured this sandwich.

The best meal was mom’s Schnitzel. The battered and fried pork cutlet was topped with a bacon and mushroom gravy, and was just fantastic. Normally, when any fried food is topped with sauce, it gets mushy, but this stayed crisp and tasted great.
